Hackers accessed personal information at Valio

More than 5,000 employees and affiliates of Valio, the Finnish dairy company, had their personal information compromised in a significant data breach just before Christmas.

In December, Valio fell victim to a cyberattack that resulted in extensive data exposure. Hackers likely accessed sensitive details, including names, addresses, social security numbers, salary records, and bank account information. Valio disclosed this breach to Finnish news-site Yle, as reported by food-supply.se.

There are also concerns that the insurance company handling Valio’s employee insurance policies and Valio’s pension fund may have been impacted by the attack.

The breach occurred on December 12, but its full scope became apparent a week later. Hackers infiltrated Valio’s systems by compromising the password of its IT service provider, Vincit. Despite the attack being quickly interrupted, Valio’s case stands out among Vincit’s ten affected partners as the only instance where personal data was accessed.

The identity of the hackers remains unknown, and the case has been handed over to the authorities for investigation.
