At NML’s national convention, it was decided that NML will become a sub-organization of Parat – one of Norway’s largest trade unions.
NML – the Norwegian Food and Dairy Workers’ Association – has decided at its national convention to align itself with Parat, thereby becoming a sub-organization of one of Norway’s largest professional unions. As a sub-organization, NML will retain both its name and its own board.
Ottar Olden, head of the NML secretariat, says he looks forward to becoming part of Parat. Together with the other employees in the secretariat, they will join Parat’s central office as of September 1, 2025.
– We will now gain significantly greater access to resources in areas such as legal support, negotiations, and other member services. In addition, we’ll have a nationwide presence through Parat’s regional offices, which stretch from Kristiansand in the south to Tromsø in the north, says Ottar Olden.
He also believes that the decision to become a sub-organization under Parat will significantly enhance the benefits for NML’s members.
– In addition to a more secure framework and better support systems, this opens new development opportunities in member engagement. We’ll also achieve a more efficient professional collaboration across sectors, says Ottar Olden.
