Poland’s largest dairy company, Polmlek Group, has shown interest in acquiring Swedish dairy cooperative Norrmejerier.
According to NSD and Land Lantbruk a Polish delegation has reportedly visited Norrmejerier facilities, and Polmlek is said to have offered a market milk price higher than current levels, potentially increasing revenues for local farmers. Although several sources confirm ongoing discussions, Norrmejerier’s board remains silent on the matter.
According to an article in NSD some farmers believe a sale or merger is necessary for long-term survival, citing low milk prices and poor investment conditions among dairy farms in northern Sweden.
Although Norrmejerier chairman Göran Olofsson acknowledges talks with various companies, he declines to address Polmlek specifically. He stresses the cooperative’s local focus and cautions against relying on international markets, though he remains optimistic about gradual price increases. Olofsson also notes that current milk settlement prices are historically high, with some farmers investing or planning to do so.
Polmlek’s CEO, Miguel Coutinho, emphasized via email to NSD that acquisition-related matters are highly confidential, offering no further comment. Polmlek Group operates with about 10,000 suppliers producing 4.5 million liters of milk daily across 15 facilities—including one in Morocco—and employs 5,000 people.
