Skånemejerier introduces a new cheese type

Ära™ is the name of a brand-new cheese from Skånemejerier® and Allerum – a distinctive hard cheese with bold flavor and a touch of refined saltiness.

With Cheese Day on May 27 fast approaching, Skånemejerier is taking the opportunity to unveil what could be the next big innovation in the cheese world. Developed over several years by master cheesemakers at Kristianstad Dairy, Ära™ is a tribute to the art of Swedish cheese craftsmanship – a name that honors tradition while pushing boundaries.

The cheese made a strong debut at this year’s Cheese Festival, where it was presented as a “secret Swedish novelty” and received enthusiastic praise from both experts and visitors alike.

  • We have a rich cheese culture in Sweden that we are passionate about preserving and evolving. The market needs more hard cheeses made from Swedish milk to support our local food industry and traditions. That’s why the positive reception of Ära has been so encouraging, says Stefan Andersson, Plant Manager at Skånemejerier’s Kristianstad Dairy.

This year, Skånemejerier is investing over SEK 60 million in the Kristianstad facility to expand production of cheese made with Swedish milk and to boost innovation.

Ära™ has been crafted to suit a variety of occasions – whether enjoyed on a sandwich or served on a cheese board. It comes in three flavor profiles: mild, medium, and aged.
