The energy crisis and extreme heat are now significantly damaging Ukraine’s dairy industry, as reported by the Dairy Industry Newsletter (dairy industry information media). Thus, the volumes of dairy products returned to dairies have increased by 20-30 percent due to power outages, thereby impacting the cold chains. In early July, various reports indicated that Ukraine’s largest private electricity supplier experienced a 90 percent reduction in power due to Russian attacks.
The lack of power and the high temperatures also imply that families are buying fewer dairy products due to storage challenges. In addition, food prices in local stores are increasing as the cost of running generators also grows.
