Valio consolidates its plant-based production and closes two plants

Finnish Valio is transferring the production of juices and plant-based snack and cooking products from Helsinki and Turku to Riihimäki - the facilities in Helsinki and Turku will be closed in the coming years.

Valio’s goal in moving its plant-based production is to improve production efficiency and competitiveness. The modern production facility in Riihimäki creates new opportunities for the development of the plant-based product categories, states a press release.

The plan is for the production plants in Helsinki and Turku to close in 2026. The juice plant in Helsinki produces juice, berry soups and mulled wine, while the plant in Turku produces plant-based cooking and snack products. There are respectively 65 employees at the juice plant and around 25 employees in Turku. It is expected that 35 new positions will be offered in Riihimäki.

– In recent years, Valio has strongly developed the Riihimäki plant’s expertise in plant-based products. The plan is to utilize the modern production facilities at the Riihimäki facility to a greater extent in the production of juices and berry soups as well as plant-based snacks and cooking products and in the development of these categories,” explains Juha Penttilä. Valio’s Group Director of Operations.

Product deliveries to customers will continue as normal.

Valio employs around 4,300 people, of whom 3,700 work in Finland. Around 430 people currently work at the Riihimäki facility.
