New Data Reveal Sweden’s Supply Capacity

There is significant variation in the market shares of different Swedish food categories, with cheese having one of the lowest at just 39 percent.

The latest figures from the Swedish Board of Agriculture highlight the country’s self-sufficiency capacity, indicating the proportion of consumer demand that can be met by domestic food production. Market shares differ widely between food categories, ranging from around 40 percent for cheese to over 100 percent for cereals.

In the dairy sector, the situation is mixed. On average, the dairy category has a self-sufficiency rate of 75 percent. Among dairy products, cheese has seen the greatest decline over time, with its market share now down to 39 percent. In contrast, the market share for milk stands at 105 percent.
