50% of Swedes have low confidence in Sweden’s ability to produce enough food for the population in the future, according to a new SIFO survey conducted by Verian on behalf of Skånemejerier.
The survey from Skånemejerier also shows that one in three Swedes (34%) feels direct concern about a potential future food shortage in Sweden, and every other Swede (52%) reports having little knowledge about food production.
– It is, of course, unfortunate that confidence in Sweden’s food supply is so low. Especially in uncertain times, it is more important than ever to recognize its significance for our country’s preparedness and its potential to contribute to the green transition, says Cecilia von Perglas, CEO of Skånemejerier, who emphasizes that Swedish food production has great potential to provide the population with nutritious food.
According to the survey, half of Swedes (52%) admit to having limited knowledge about food production – with the number increasing to 60% among young adults aged 18-29.
– There may be a link between the lack of knowledge, the low confidence, and the concern. We need to continue increasing awareness of the great future potential of Swedish food production — not only in terms of providing healthy food, but also the many additional benefits it offers, says Cecilia von Perglas.
