Arla’s dairy in Upahl marked its 30th anniversary on September 5, accompanied by the announcement of a €30 million investment planned over the coming years.
– I am delighted that we are celebrating our factory in Upahl today. This site has been a success story, evolving over the past decade into an innovative and key facility for fresh dairy products within the Arla group. Upahl is not only crucial for our German retail customers, but as a center of excellence for Arla Skyr, it is also highly important to other European markets, said CEO Peder Tuborgh at the celebration.
Tuborgh further noted that Arla intends to invest approximately €30 million in Upahl over the next three years. Around €20 million will go towards new production facilities for innovative, fermented dairy products like Arla Skyr, while €10 million will be allocated to sustainability initiatives. The goal is for the site to operate on 100% green electricity by the end of 2025, with a target to reduce CO2e emissions from production by 60% by 2030.
Last year, the Upahl dairy processed 500 million kg of milk. It employs 430 staff members and sources from 330 Arla farmers. The dairy opened in September 1994 under the name Hansa-Milch and merged with Arla Foods in 2011.
