8 out of 10 believe milk is vital for children’s development

School Milk Day is celebrated each year on the last Wednesday of September. To mark the occasion, Norrmejerier has published a new survey showing that milk remains highly valued when it comes to children’s growth and development.

According to the study, conducted by Norstat for Norrmejerier, 82 percent of Swedes believe milk is important for children’s development – with support even stronger in northern Sweden.

Milk is part of children’s everyday school life. It is nutritious, locally produced, and deeply rooted in our northern Swedish food traditions. Naturally, all children should have access to milk at school. The fact that some municipalities are considering cutting school milk should be a political issue, says Petra Kangas, Head of Communications at Norrmejerier.

In Norrland, significantly more people believe milk is very important for children’s development. In central Norrland, as many as 62 percent hold this view, compared with just 36–37 percent in southern Sweden.

Parents with children also stand out: among those aged 30–45, 37 percent say they purchase milk specifically for their children – more than double the figure for the general population.

It’s encouraging to see that families with children continue to place their trust in milk. We know that school milk plays a key role both in children’s nutrition and in fostering healthy eating habits, adds Petra Kangas.
