Alfa Laval is set to open an innovation center dedicated to the development of cutting-edge foods and production methods, fostering collaboration between the established food industry, researchers, entrepreneurs, and other key partners.
The global leader, known for supplying equipment to the dairy industry among others, will establish the innovation center in Søborg, where the headquarters for its Food and Water division is already located. This new facility will strengthen partnerships with the cluster of companies in Copenhagen that focus on research and technologies for producing healthier and more sustainable food solutions.
- Our range of technologies, solutions, and expertise enables food and beverage producers to take greater responsibility for their supply chains, says Lars Dithmer, President of Alfa Laval’s Food Systems Business Unit adding:
- It is imperative to ensure the global food system can support a growing population while significantly reducing its environmental and climate impact. Alfa Laval has a key role to play in achieving this goal.
The innovation center will focus on two primary areas:
- Conventional Foods, Ingredients, and Beverages
Efforts will concentrate on developing processes and technologies to create foods with improved nutritional content and higher yields. Simultaneously, energy, water, and raw material consumption will be minimized, with increasing emphasis on recovering and reusing resources.
- Next-Generation Foods
This area will prioritize the development of new processes and technologies for plant-based and fermentation-based foods. The goal is to progress from proof of concept to industrial-scale production, significantly reducing the environmental impact of the supply chain.
Spanning approximately 1,200 square meters, the center will also feature a visitor hub to showcase its innovations. The facility is expected to be completed by 2027, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of sustainable food production.
