In a new, visionary project near Varde in Denmark, Arla is joining forces with 20 cooperative owners to strengthen Danish nature.

On Friday, September 19, Arla launched a new nature and climate project at Pølmosen near Kvie Lake in Varde Municipality. Here, more than 20 local farmers are working together to boost biodiversity, improve water quality, and create more connected natural habitats – all without reducing milk production. The project is closely linked to the work of the national green partnership and will test new cultivation methods that reduce the use of nitrogen.

“Arla has an ambitious agenda when it comes to the green transition. If we succeed here in Varde, we will gain knowledge that can be applied throughout Denmark and in Arla’s other countries,” says Henrik Lilballe Hansen, Country Director of Arla Denmark, in a press release.

The Minister for the Green Partnership, Jeppe Bruus, sees the project as an important step: “Arla is showing how production and nature can go hand in hand,” he says in the press release. Mayor Mads Sørensen is pleased that Varde Municipality has been chosen as the setting for the project. An advisory group consisting of NGOs, educational institutions, and consultants will help ensure that the lessons learned are widely shared.

The project marks a new step in Arla’s green transition, where cooperative owners are already rewarded for climate-efficient production and initiatives that benefit nature.
