L&F has analysed key global societal trends and their impact on consumption. The analysis concludes that demand for food is increasing worldwide – with particularly strong growth expected for dairy products.
In its market analysis, Landbrug & Fødevarer highlights five major global demographic trends that are set to shape demand for food and beverages in the decades ahead. These trends are:
• A growing global population
• An ageing population
• Increasing urbanisation
• A rise in single-person households
• The expansion of the global middle class
The analysis shows that these demographic trends will drive rising demand for food, especially in low- and middle-income countries where both population growth and rising incomes are accelerating. According to the latest OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook, demand for dairy products is projected to increase by more than 20 per cent by 2034. Demand for meat and fish is also expected to grow.
Based on these findings, L&F recommends that the food and agriculture sector be well prepared to meet a wide range of consumer needs, including convenience, quality and sustainability – as well as food that is enjoyable and filling. Producers must be ready to serve both expanding markets and emerging consumer segments, such as older consumers and single-person households. At the same time, continued investment in innovation and knowledge is essential to ensure that production can keep pace with global demand while safeguarding the planet’s resources.
The analysis is based on data and reports from sources including UN population projections, the World Bank, Euromonitor International and WorldAtlas. The trends are presented in detail through text and graphics in a 20-page report.
