Arla is preparing to expand HOCO, as it will take over outsourced production of Lactoferrin, according to AgriWatch.

For a number of years, Arla Foods’ powder factory in Holstebro, HOCO, has outsourced a niche production of Lactoferrin. The exclusive powder, which is found in breast milk, for example, is among the most expensive milk concentrates on the market. Therefore, Arla Foods will now pursue this market and take production home with a new factory of 2,100 square meters, to be built in connection with the existing plant in Holstebro. This information is provided by AgriWatch (agriculture and business media) – with the news being based on an application for an environmental permit from the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. However, a comment from Arla Foods has not been available.

– HOCO’s current Lactoferrin Eluate production will be moved to the new factory where it will be scaled up, and new filtration facilities, spray drying facilities, and facilities for powder packing will also be established. The expected Lactoferrin production is marginal in relation to HOCO’s current powder production. The new factory will increase HOCO’s powder production by about 180 kg/day, corresponding to about 2 parts per thousand, the application reads – and as reported by AgriWatch.

Arla Foods expects to start construction in 2025 making it possible to inaugurate the factory in 2027. This will bring the entire dairy in Holstebro up to 17,800 square meters, AgriWatch underlines.
