Third consecutive price increase on GDT points to rising global demand.
The international dairy auction Global Dairy Trade (GDT) sent a strong price signal to the market on Tuesday, 3 February. The overall GDT index rose by 6.7 per cent – the third consecutive increase – indicating that global demand for dairy products is gaining momentum once again.
The rise was significantly stronger than at the previous auction, where the index increased by 1.5 per cent. As a result, a substantial share of the price decline seen over the past six months has been recovered, bringing the index back to the level recorded in autumn 2025.
Cheese, powders and butter led the gains
The GDT index comprises eight product categories, including cheese, butter and milk powders. At Tuesday’s auction, mozzarella and skim milk powder were among the strongest performers, both rising by 10.6 per cent. Butter also recorded a solid increase, climbing by 8.8 per cent. All categories ended the auction in positive territory.
Overall, the development suggests that global dairy markets are gradually moving towards a better balance between supply and demand following a period of pronounced price pressure.
