PlanetDairy, the Danish producer of hybrid products made from both milk and plants, is purchasing technology and equipment from the Swedish company Stockeld Dreamery, which recently closed its operations.

• We’re acquiring technology and equipment that they have invested heavily in over in Sweden. We’re working in the same direction, so it makes good sense for us. Overall, it’s about pushing the boundaries of how far we can go with plant-based innovation, says CEO Jakob Skovgaard of PlanetDairy to Fødevarewatch.

Swedish Stockeld Dreamery – formerly known as Noquo Foods – has invested 20 million dollars since its founding in 2019 in the development of plant-based alternatives to cheese. The products reached around 500 stores in the US, but the company was nevertheless forced to shut down in mid-October.

In an interview with Swedish Impact Loop in October, founder Sarosh Tavakoli explained that consumers simply were not demanding the products strongly enough: – People don’t want these products. People love dairy, he remarked.

The Danish company PlanetDairy was founded in 2022 by former Arla employees, focusing on sustainability and hybrid products made from both milk and plants. Its first products entered the Danish market in 2023, and distribution has since expanded to other Nordic countries as well as the Netherlands.
