On Friday, 41 activists from Animal Rebellion blocked access to the Sachsenmilch dairy in Leppersdorf in protest against the use of tie-stall housing in milk production.

According to the company, operations at Sachsenmilch were severely disrupted both on Friday and in the days that followed. Milk tankers were unable to make deliveries, and at one point as many as 150 milk trucks and lorries were backed up outside the facility, FødevareWatch reports, citing topagrar.com.

During the protest, activists glued their hands to the roadway, while three others climbed onto a milk tanker. The group condemned Sachsenmilch for sourcing milk from farms where cows are kept in year-round tie-stalls.

The farmers’ association Freie Bauern (Free Farmers) denounced the action as criminal and warned that such radical tactics harm both farmers and the democratic process.

Sachsenmilch, part of the Theo Müller Group, employs around 3,000 people at its Leppersdorf site, which processes approximately 1.7 billion kilograms of milk each year into milk, butter, yogurt, and cheese.
