Danone launches yogurt aimed at GLP-1 users

Danone has introduced a new drinking yogurt in the U.S. under its Oikos brand. The product is aimed at consumers using weight-loss medications such as Wegovy and other GLP-1 treatments.

The drinkable yogurt, Oikos Fusion, has been developed to help build and preserve muscle mass during weight loss – a need that research shows is particularly important, as up to 20% of total weight loss with GLP-1 drugs can come from muscle mass, according to the online magazine Just Drink.

According to Danone North America, Oikos Fusion contains 23 grams of protein, 5 grams of prebiotic fiber, and vitamins such as B3 and B12, designed to support consumers’ nutritional needs. Whitney Evans, Director of Nutrition and Scientific Affairs for the region, describes the product as the first in the yogurt category specifically developed for GLP-1 users.

The drink will first launch in Walmart stores and then roll out more broadly nationwide in October. It will be available in strawberry, mixed berry, and vanilla flavors.

Danone already offers other “GLP-1-friendly” products, but Oikos Fusion stands out for its specific focus on weight-loss consumers. According to Rafael Acevedo, President of Danone’s Yogurt Division in North America, the product combines Danone’s scientific expertise with Oikos’ focus on strength and protein to meet the growing demand for targeted nutritional solutions.

Fact box:
GLP-1 stands for Glucagon-Like Peptide-1. It is a drug that mimics a hormone produced in the gut after a meal. The hormone helps reduce spikes in blood sugar and decreases appetite.
