Arla is marking the start of construction of its new cheese dairy alongside its existing site in Götene, Sweden.

On Monday, 7 September, Arla will break ground on a new cheese dairy alongside its existing facility in Götene, Sweden. The €300 million investment was announced in February 2026 and, according to the company, represents both Arla’s largest-ever investment and the biggest single investment in Swedish food production to date.

The new facility is expected to be completed in 2030. Production of “Hushållsost” will be transferred from Nr. Vium Dairy in Denmark to Götene once the new facility becomes operational, after which all of Arla’s Hushållsost will be produced locally using Swedish milk.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be attended by, among others, Sweden’s Minister for Rural Affairs Peter Kullgren, Managing Director of Arla Sweden Cecilia Kocken, as well as representatives from the agricultural sector and politics.
