Arla’s Dutch competitor, FrieslandCampina, is buying the American company Wisconsin Whey Protein, thereby strengthening its global commitment to the protein sector.
FrieslandCampina has announced that it will acquire Wisconsin Whey Protein, a US producer of whey protein isolate. The plan is to integrate the company into FrieslandCampina Ingredients, which already holds a strong global position in proteins and prebiotics.
The acquisition represents a significant expansion of FrieslandCampina’s capacity to produce whey protein – at a time when demand for protein ingredients is rising worldwide. The US plant is currently being expanded and is expected to more than double its production of whey protein isolate. This will enable FrieslandCampina to reinforce its presence in North America while also bolstering its position in Europe, Asia, and global markets.
Commenting on the acquisition, Anne Peter Lindeboom, President of FrieslandCampina Ingredients, said in a press release:
The deal aligns with a broader global trend: consumers are placing increasing emphasis on protein – whether in sports nutrition, functional beverages, or health products. For FrieslandCampina, the aim is to offer premium protein with high quality, secure capacity, and global availability. At the same time, the purchase sends a clear signal to the market that competition in whey and protein products is intensifying.
