At the 2024 World Cheese Awards in Portugal last week, Norwegian cheeses earned numerous accolades, with 10 gold, 15 silver, and 22 bronze medals.
Over 4,700 cheeses from 47 countries were judged by 244 experts on aroma, flavor, and texture. Among the Nordic countries, Norway had the strongest showing with Snertingdal Ysteri’s “Godbiten” placed 8th among the world’s best cheeses.
The World Cheese Awards, the largest cheese competition globally, highlights artisanal and specialty cheeses. This year’s winner was Portugal’s Queijo de Ovelha Amanteigado from Quinta do Pomar. Norwegian cheeses have previously won the top award in 2016, 2018, and 2023.
