FrieslandCampina, Agrifirm, Agravis, and Alzchem have launched a pilot project using the fertilizer additive Eminex to reduce methane emissions during manure storage.
Stored manure releases methane over time. According to FrieslandCampina, the German-developed Eminex additive significantly reduces these emissions during storage.
Ten dairy farmers in the Netherlands and Germany, all FrieslandCampina members, are participating in the pilot. Wageningen University will measure methane emissions from these farms to document the impact of Eminex. Results will also be included in FrieslandCampina’s annual analysis of greenhouse gas emissions from its dairy producers.
In the Netherlands, Agrifirm supports pilot farms, while Agravis oversees operations in Germany. The project will last one year.
