Milk production is declining in Ireland and the northern EU countries, to include Denmark, according to a new report from the European Commission.
A new report from the European Commission analyses milk weigh-ins in the first seven months of the year. During this period, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, and Ireland have delivered less milk compared to last year. Ireland has experienced a decline of as much as 5.2 percent, whereas the Netherlands has weighed in 2 percent less milk than last year.
In contrast, there is an increase in milk production in Eastern Europe, particularly in Estonia and Latvia, where between 5 and 7 percent more milk was weighed in than was the case last year. Poland has also seen a growth of 1.5 percent.
Further south, France has weighed in 0.8 percent more milk, and in Spain, milk production as increased by 1.6 percent.
Overall, 0.2 percent more milk has been weighed in in the EU member states during this period. In July, however, the weigh-in was 0.53 percent below last year’s level.
