The Dutch dairy ingredients giant FrieslandCampina Ingredients has completed a major production expansion in Borculo, aimed at meeting the growing global demand for high-quality dairy ingredients.

FrieslandCampina Ingredients has finalised the expansion of its production facility in Borculo in the Netherlands. The expansion, announced in 2023, has doubled the company’s capacity to produce whey protein isolate (WPI) and milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) – two ingredients seeing increasing use in early life nutrition, sports and active nutrition, and medical nutrition, according to a company press release.

“The commissioning of our expanded Borculo facility marks an important milestone in our strategy to lead the global protein market and meet the world’s growing demand,” says Anne Peter Lindeboom, President of FrieslandCampina Ingredients.

The expansion forms part of a broader global strategy. FrieslandCampina Ingredients has previously acquired Wisconsin Whey Protein in North America, and together the two initiatives strengthen the company’s position on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Borculo facility uses advanced technologies to preserve the bio-functionality of whey, and has also implemented measures to reduce CO₂ emissions in line with FrieslandCampina’s climate targets for 2030.
