The Norwegian dairy cooperative TINE has announced plans to invest 25 million NOK to boost production capacity in response to growing demand for cottage cheese.
As previously reported by Dairy Nordic, TINE has seen a sharp rise in cottage cheese demand since September 2023. With a 42% increase over the past year, the Frya facility has already extended production hours and increased staffing. Now, a 25 million NOK investment has been approved to further expand the facility.
– This is just one of several steps we’re taking to meet changing consumer preferences and ensure we can keep up with market demand. Cottage cheese is trending, and we’re ready to ensure that it remains readily available for everyone seeking a healthy, protein-rich, minimally processed option for their diet. It’s incredibly rewarding to see such strong interest in the products we’ve worked so hard to develop, said Sigrid Svanborg, plant manager at Frya in a press release.
TINE has also increased its range of cottage cheese varieties from three to five over the past year, with more new products in development.
– The new launches have successfully attracted younger consumers under 30, and we’re also seeing a significant increase in consumption among those aged 30 to 60, added Audrey Delaporte Pedersen, TINE’s brand manager for cottage cheese.
