The overall price index on the Global Dairy Trade (GDT) platform fell by 2.8 per cent at Tuesday’s auction, with almost all products recording price declines. Lactose was the only exception, posting a 4.2 per cent increase.

Tuesday’s Global Dairy Trade (GDT) auction saw broad-based price weakness. The overall GDT Price Index declined by 2.8 per cent compared with the auction two weeks ago, when the index fell by just 0.6 per cent. The latest decline was therefore more than four times larger than the previous one. The average selling price settled at USD 3,979 per tonne.

Almost all products recorded lower prices. The steepest declines were seen in mozzarella (-5.0 per cent, USD 3,750 per tonne) and skim milk powder (-3.6 per cent, USD 3,368 per tonne), followed closely by Cheddar (-3.4 per cent, USD 4,471 per tonne) and whole milk powder (-3.1 per cent, USD 3,589 per tonne). Butter fell by 2.4 per cent to USD 5,516 per tonne, while anhydrous milk fat (AMF) declined by 1.0 per cent to USD 6,601 per tonne.

The only product to buck the trend was lactose, which rose by 4.2 per cent to USD 1,702 per tonne.

A total of 12,922 tonnes were sold at the auction, which attracted 151 bidders.
