Around 5,000 kilos of dairy products a year will go to an organisation serving roughly 1,000 free meals a day to people experiencing homelessness in Denmark.
Arla Foods’ Danish foodservice business has entered a partnership with JunkFood, a Danish social organisation providing free meals to people experiencing homelessness, according to a press release from Arla.
Under the agreement, Arla will supply around 5,000 kilos of products a year. The products come partly as donations through the Danish food bank FødevareBanken and partly through a discount agreement.
According to the press release, JunkFood serves around 1,000 free meals a day via drop-in centres, shelters and warming centres across Denmark. It has served almost 1.3 million hot meals since 2020. Chef Rasmus Munk, founder of the two-Michelin-starred Copenhagen restaurant Alchemist, is behind the organisation.
“Through the partnership with JunkFood, we can help ensure that more good raw materials do not go to waste, but become meals that create care, dignity and new opportunities,” says Kamilla Svane, Senior Director Foodservice Denmark at Arla Foods.
The partnership launches on 29 September, the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste.
